When They Don’t Call Back
Medical Devices, Interviewing, Time Management October 24th, 2007We have covered this topic on Non Sterile before; however, one of my favorite blogs, Brazen Careerist, posted the following:
“Every once in a while I’ll publish job-hunt questions people ask me a lot. And it’s that time again. But today I’m publishing a question that stumped me:
“Why don’t interviewers get back to me after the interview? I go to the interview, I feel like we click, and the hiring manager or human resource representative never says another thing to me again. Ever.”
I sent this question to my well-placed, hot-shot human resource friend who works at a company that a slew of you want to work for but cannot be named in this blog, and this is what he told me about the issue.”
The author’s best advice is to just move on and get better at interviewing so you won’t have to worry about hiring managers not calling you back.
What is the interviewer never calls you back? (via Brazen Careerist)

Well, this question does not stump me.
It’s hard for me to believe that people will just sit back and wait for a call, especially when it’s their own career at stake. Especially if they are a sales person!
So, as a sales person, do you expect to make a presentation to a prospect, then just sit back and wait for them to call you with a p.o. number? I mean, it would be nice wouldn’t it, but it just doesn’t happen very often.
And if they don’t call with a p.o. number right away, what do you do? Do you sulk, suck your thumb? Whine and say “why don’t they get back to me?” Kind of ridiculous to hope for results while doing nothing but fretting, isn’t it?
An interview isn’t a whole lot different than a sale. Don’t abandon your sales instincts just because it’s an interview.
The interviewer could be sitting on the other end thinking…”No thank you note? No follow-up? I guess this candidate wasn’t as good as I thought.”
So, even if you are a fantastic phenomenal interviewer, you must Must MUST follow-up. Take responsibility for your own future.
